The situation is not right! Entomologists have gone from Colombo to Jaffna! Sri Lanka Latest News

Dr. Sudath Samaraweera, Director of the Dengue Control Unit, told ‘Mawrata’ that a group of medical personnel including community health officers and entomologists of the Dengue Control Unit sent from Colombo to the Jaffna district, where dengue is most prevalent, conducted an urgent inspection of 13,860 places where dengue larvae are suspected. In January alone, 2,374 dengue cases have been found in Jaffna.

Dr. Samaraweera said that during the relevant emergency investigation, 796 places where dengue larvae were found, red notices were issued for 629 persons and legal action was taken against 42 others.

During the field inspection, it was revealed that there were more dengue larvae near workplaces, religious shrines and some houses in Jaffna.

The Dengue Control Unit also said that measures were taken to clean 5,097 such places where dengue larvae were present.

At the beginning of this year, in January, the number of dengue cases found on the island is 10,417.
