The MP emphasized that after February, the opportunity has arisen to move the country forward with the World Bank, International Monetary Fund, Asian Development Bank and friendly countries and the people have the responsibility to recognize the efforts of certain parties to sabotage it and defeat them.
Member of Parliament Mr. Vajira Abeywardena mentioned this while joining the news conference held at the Presidential Media Center today (16) under the theme ‘One way to a stable country’.
Mr. Vajira Abeywardena, Member of Parliament, who commented further, said:
There is no other country in the world that has about 75 political parties like Sri Lanka. That is how the divisions of our country have been created. It has created disunity in the country. That situation also led to many destructions in the country after independence. How do these parties get money? There is no system to track who is spending. Therefore, President Ranil Wickremesinghe has passed a bill in the Parliament that will enable him to find out how these parties spend money in elections.
Also, President Ranil Wickramasinghe has the attention of the world right now. That is because the country, which had fallen to the extreme in one year and six months, was put back on the path of development. It should be remembered that the President used every foreign trip effectively for that purpose.
Also, it must be said that the manifesto of our party that was defeated in 2020 has been implemented for the sake of building the country. If so, the people should remember that today they are enjoying fuel, electricity, gas and other essentials without shortage by implementing the manifesto they defeated. You should remember that the country has become normal today because of that document.
Today, the government is implementing the points contained in the book “Yali Pubudamu Sri Lanka” which we presented to the Tokyo Conference. All politicians in this country should read it.
There is no point in criticizing each other anymore. There is no other option but the program led by President Ranil Wickremesinghe to rebuild the country which has deteriorated to the extreme. Today, people are living a good life without queuing because of that program. So all parties should stand together with this. If anyone changes this journey, they should bear the responsibility. Those parties should also bear the responsibility for certain false statements made in some cases for political gains.
By the time President Ranil Wickramasinghe assumed responsibility in 2022, no one in this country could do politics. No one had the energy to do any development work. The development processes that were missed for three years have now been able to start again from next February.
But some parties are also trying to undermine the development process of this country. Those people have launched a wave of strikes these days. Their efforts have been to reduce the number of tourists coming to this country by spreading it around the world. It can break the country’s economy. There is a risk of losing billions of dollars due to the country.
Also, for debt restructuring, one agreement is to be signed with Japan and Paris Club and another agreement with China. With that, after February, there will be an opportunity to move the country forward with the support of the World Bank, International Monetary Fund, Asian Development Bank, JICA as well as friendly countries. Some parties may try to disrupt it. It is the responsibility of the people to identify such efforts and defeat them.
