A 63-year-old woman who lived in an area not far from Yakkala has died.
Gampaha Coroner Dr. P.P.R.P.Rajapaksha said that during the autopsy, it was confirmed by the report of the forensic medical officer of the hospital that he died of COVID-19 pneumonia.
Sources in the municipality state that the body of the deceased has been cremated at the Kasagahawatta crematorium under the control of the Gampaha Municipality with security measures in place.
A few days ago, a coronavirus case was also reported from Kandy hospital.
Meanwhile, Health Minister Dr. Ramesh Pathirana said that there is nothing wrong with wearing face masks again.
The minister said that during the last COVID-19 epidemic period, it was revealed that wearing a mask can protect against many respiratory diseases and that respiratory diseases were at a minimum at that time. Therefore, the Minister mentioned that it is not a mistake to wear face masks again.
The Minister said that due to the recently spread fever, there was a discussion about the threat of a new type of Covid entering Sri Lanka, and he said that he is very aware of it and the Ministry of Health has informed all the necessary departments and is taking necessary steps for follow-up.
The minister said that there should not be any unnecessary fear about the disease and said that since a very good vaccination program has been implemented in the past, the country’s immunity has improved.
Mr. Ramesh Pathirana mentioned this in a press conference held at the Ministry of Health.
