President’s counsel Mr. Kalinga Indratissa, who appeared for the suspect in this incident, informed the Maligakanda Magistrate Lochani Abeywickrama Weerasinghe that the mastermind behind the incident of importing and distributing substandard antibody vaccines to government hospitals is in the cabinet yesterday (15) and challenged the Criminal Investigation Department to arrest him and show if possible. President’s counsel Mr. Kalinga Indratissa said that his client is more worried about the people of Sri Lanka than the people of the Ministry of Health and no matter how the court applies the judicial mind, the police will not arrest the two people involved in these crimes. He further questioned why his client was arrested.
Magistrate Lochani Abewickrama Weerasinghe directed the Chief Executive Officer of the Drug Regulatory Authority to conduct an investigation into the drugs found in the suspect’s possession and submit them to the court within a week. He was further remanded until the 29th.
Requesting to conduct an investigation regarding the fraud of crores of rupees and putting the patient’s life in an unsafe condition by importing substandard antibody vaccine called ‘Immunoglobin’ which is used for neurological patients and distributing it to the government hospitals of the island by preparing fake documents from the loan money given under the Indian loan scheme. The CID Police submitted a report to the court showing the progress of the investigations regarding a complaint filed by the ‘Citizens Power Organization Against Bribery, Corruption and Waste and the Coalition of Civil Organisations’.
