Driver’s license printing goes back to the motor transport department from the Army! I Sri Lanka Latest News

 At the request of the Motor Transport Department, the Sri Lanka Army has taken steps to hand over all duties related to the 10 online driving license issuing centres and 15 offline centres

across the island, including the printing of driver’s licenses. Sri Lanka Latest News

According to the cabinet decision dated July 09, 2020 (Ampa/20/0691/225/024) regarding the printing of driver’s licenses and related purchases, these activities were handed over to the Sri Lanka Army under the Army Information Technology Solution Center on 01.01.2021.

After the project was taken over by the Sri Lanka Army on 01.01.2021, the Sri Lanka Army printed 2,434,467 driving licenses along with 1,022,763 driving licenses and 1,411,704 temporary driving licenses. Accordingly, an amount of Rs. 810,799,495.90 has been saved to the Government of Sri Lanka compared to the amount spent before 01.01.2021.

During this period, the installation of a system for environmental data monitoring and (Environmental Monitoring System) at Werahera Narahenpita Data Centers, working to provide a “Speed Post” facility in connection with the Postal Department to provide printed driving licenses to the driving license applicants promptly, Sri Lanka Telecom and providing the necessary plan to the Department of Motor Transport to establish a data disaster recovery centre (Disaster_Recovery Site) in those places so that the driver’s license system can be restored in the event of an emergency by contacting Dialog institutions, and preparing a plan for a new software system required for printing driver’s licenses at a minimum cost.

Submitting to the Motor Transport Department, submitting a complete plan to the Motor Transport Department for conducting online examinations in 10 other online offices in addition to the Werahera Office, currently,

this institution has stored and correctly maintained more than 9 million data with driver’s license details. To provide a more effective service to the public through providing a contribution to national security, improving the technical service so that after the driver’s license is printed, the relevant applicants can be informed automatically through a text message, etc. A contribution has been made.

Also, according to the Army practice, the Sri Lankan Army is working to achieve greater financial advantage for the government by conducting procurement activities with good transparency.
