Additional Regional Health Officer Dr. Sumudu Thoradeniya says that there are twenty-five children suffering from severe acute malnutrition in Gangawatakorale Divisional Secretariat Division of Kandy District. (Sri Lanka Latest News)

She said that there are nearly four hundred children who have proximate causes of malnutrition who do not show a normal growth condition and live in Gangawatakorale Divisional Secretariat.

She said that by paying more attention to these children, necessary measures are being taken for their health development.

The doctor also said that a program is being implemented to provide highly nutritious food to improve the health of severely malnourished children and awareness programs for parents and elders regarding improving children’s nutrition are being carried out.

She stated these facts in a discussion held in Kandy yesterday (12) under the project of organizing women for interaction through community participation.

Through this program organized by the Sri Lanka National Peace Council, it was planned to raise the problems of the local women themselves and provide solutions to the village through them.

It was also expected to empower women politically and to set up a necessary mechanism to bring people’s problems to government officials.

This discussion was held under the chairmanship of Kandy Additional District Secretary Uttala Jayaratne.
