The government has decided to provide an allowance to those most affected by the economic crisis beginning in July, according to Plantations Minister Ramesh Pathirana.
Speaking to the media, the Minister stated that those who have been severely impacted by the economic crisis will receive a Rs. 7500 allowance.
He also stated that the allowance would be provided through a fund consisting of $200 million from the World Bank and $200 million from the Asian Development Bank.
Samurdhi beneficiaries, senior citizens, and those with medical conditions are all eligible for the allowance.
