The Minister of Justice, Prison Affairs and Constitutional Reforms, Dr. Wijayadasa Rajapaksa, says that the government is ready to conduct an international investigation into the Easter attack. Sri Lanka Latest News
The Minister said this in a press conference held this morning (07) at the Ministry of Justice Auditorium to inform the public about the new Anti-Corruption Act.
The minister also explained that when the report of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights is about to be presented, the diaspora will present various video reports against Sri Lanka.
The minister said that Channel 4 is a pro-diaspora channel, but if any incident has happened as they are broadcasting, a full investigation will be conducted.
The minister further expressed his views in this regard by giving answers to the questions raised by the journalists.
“When the report of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights is about to be presented, various reports and videos are presented against our country. Diaspora does different things. We discussed with the Diaspora leaders about their problems.
A statement was made in Parliament about this 29 months before the Easter attack. At that time, the former government spokesperson and others accused me. He said that I made this statement to destroy national unity. Today, some people from the opposition are speaking with great enthusiasm. When I made that statement then, the people who are speaking and shouting today were in the cabinet and the government.
People like Mr. Mujibur Rahman accused me of not seeing crocodiles in the country and not turning this country into a lake of blood. But after 29 months, everyone’s eyes were opened. If my statement had been investigated then, those people would still be alive today.
It was claimed that there was a mastermind behind the Easter attack. The former Attorney General Dappula de Livera told the story that there is a mastermind on the day of his retirement. He could have looked into this statement in his time without saying it on the day of his retirement. But when they go to get a statement from him about this, they get court orders not to get statements.
There are currently 42 cases related to the Easter attack. As a government, we are ready to conduct an international investigation into this Easter attack, not a local one. Those calling for international investigations today were in the government at the time of the Easter attack. Channel 04 is a media organization dealing with the diaspora. That channel is not a bona fide organization that wants justice for the people who died in the Easter attack. If there is an incident that Channel Four broadcasts, it will be investigated. We are conducting a full investigation into this.”
