The Government Medical Officers Association states that the Health Minister has become a joke today due to his statements regarding emergency purchases. (Sri Lanka Latest News)
Union Secretary Dr. Haritha Aluthge said that the minister does not have a specific program regarding emergency purchases and will have to go for emergency purchases tomorrow as well.
Dr. Aluthge pointed out that as of yesterday (03), there is a shortage of 236 types of medicines in the government’s medical supplies department, and if it takes time to bring these under the proper system, they will have to go for emergency purchases.
He said that in the face of emergency purchases, we have to continue talking about issues such as substandard medicines, fraud, corruption, and commissions.
Dr. Aluthge emphasized that today inferior drugs are coming to Sri Lanka through emergency purchases and the Government Medical Officers’ Association announced that an international level laboratory should be built to test such drugs during Rajitha Senaratne’s tenure as the Health Minister.
