Due to the lack of rain in Polonnaruwa for almost eight months, the grass that the dairy cows eat has been destroyed, and due to this, nearly fifty dairy farmers in the Mahaweli Divisions such as Welikanda, Dimbulagala, Damminna, Sinhapura, Alleweva, Aselapura, Vijayabapura, etc. in the Mahaweli B zone are in difficulty. Mahaweli officials mention.

A dairy farmer from Vijayabapura in Mahaweli B region, said that due to the dry weather conditions, the amount of liters of milk obtained from dairy cows has decreased by more than 50 percent due to the inability of dairy farmers to get grass.

In addition to this, the farmers in the villages of Dimbulagala, Soruwila, Namalpokuna, Maliyadevapura, who make their living from dairy farming, said that they are facing severe difficulties because they are unable to provide grass for their cattle. Siripala said.

They said that compared to other years, this year’s drought and dry weather have been severely affected, and due to this, the animals and the farmers engaged in animal husbandry have been severely affected due to the massive destruction of grasses in the region.
