After considering a writ petition filed by an activist claiming that the Human Rights Commission has also recommended that the Inspector General of Police and the police be held responsible for not taking proper measures to prevent violent acts in the ‘Gothagogama’ struggle ground on May 9, 2022, the Court of Appeal issued such a notice.

An active activist Mr. Janak S. Witharana in this petition filed, said an organized group attacked the struggle grounds and Police failed to take any appropriate action to prevent this. Inspector General of Police the Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of the Criminal Investigation Department and the Attorney General, named as respondents.
The bench considered the facts presented regarding the petition and decided to hear the writ petition.
