With the resumption of train traffic between Colombo Fort and Kankasanthurae on the Northern Railway, the renovated section from Anuradhapura to Omanta will be opened to the public from today (15), says the Railway Department. (Sri Lanka Latest News)
The railway line from Anuradhapura to Omanta was closed for renovation, and the work was completed on Indian loan assistance.
In 2019, the project to rehabilitate the railway line from Mahawa to Omanta, allowing trains to run at a speed of 100 kilometers per hour, was started.
It was scheduled to be completed in November 2022.
The railway distance between Mahawa and Omanta is 127 km. The project is estimated at US$ 2.27 million.
Accordingly Yaldevi, Udayadevi express train and night mail train are operational from today.
