To protect the benefits due to the members of the Employees’ Provident Fund act , which introduced by Mr, T.B. Illangaratna in 1958, SJB would bring some amendments in near future says the Colombo district MP Harsha de Silva. Sri Lanka Latest News
Addressing the media in Colombo, he mentioned that these amendments will be presented by the Economic Committee of the Samagi Jana Balawega and that the amendment proposals will guide the members to determine a certain minimum return or to pay an interest return equal to the interest income received for other investments or to pay a capital interest.
“Currently, there are 196 lakh accounts in this fund. About 26 lakh of these are active. Their benefit should be permanent for the next 15 years. That is why we hope to introduce these amendments.” The MP said here.
There have been accusations that in the recent domestic debt optimization, the burden has been placed unilaterally on the Employees’ Provident Fund and that this violates the principles of fairness.
