The Colombo High Court has ordered the release of remanded Natasha Edirisuriya on bail. After considering a bail petition submitted on her behalf, the Colombo High Court issued this order of Judge Aditya Patabandi. The judge announced the bail order after Deputy Solicitor General Dilipa Peiris, who appeared for the Attorney General, informed him that he would not oppose the bail request.Sri Lanka Latest News
The Fort Magistrate’s Court ordered this morning to further remand Natasha Edirisuriya, who expressed controversial views on Buddhism, until July 19. It was in such a background that the bail request was made to the High Court on her behalf.
Here, the High Court judge had stated that under the ICCPR Act, the statement made by Natasha Ediriduriya cannot be taken as a statement inciting religious or religious hatred.
The judge said that the ICCPR Act is currently being implemented outside of the purpose that was introduced to Sri Lanka by the legislature.
