The majority of Finance Committee representatives have decided to impose a condition that opposition leader Mr. Sajith Premadasa cannot be questioned in today’s Parliamentary Finance Committee regarding the restructuring of domestic debt. Sri Lanka Latest News
Alleging that the government is working to restructure the local debt in a way that affects the people’s funds, Mr. Sajith Premadasa, the leader of the opposition, had planned to participate in the finance committee meetings held today and tomorrow and question it strongly.
We also took steps to publish this information on our website yesterday.
However, immediately after knowing this, at the beginning of today’s finance committee meeting, the representatives of the government, Mr. Mahindananda Aluthgamage, Nimal Lanza and Suren Raghavan protested and stated that the leader of the opposition is not a member of the finance committee and therefore cannot be allowed to participate.
But when the representatives of the opposition protested, the members of the ruling party suggested that a vote should be held.
It has been learned that 10 votes were received for Mr. Sajith Premadasa not to participate and 6 votes against it, according to the poll after Mr. Harsha de Silva, Chairman of the Finance Committee, gave the opportunity.
However, at the end of the discussion, it has been decided that the Leader of the Opposition can be allowed to attend the meeting but cannot be given an opportunity to ask questions.
The representatives of the government have stated that if they want to ask such questions, they can do so through a representative.
