A heated situation has arisen between Minister Jeevan Thondaman and the police regarding an incident where a young man who was arrested by the Bagwantalawa police was allegedly assaulted by the police. Sri Lanka Latest News
It is reported that the minister and a group of his supporters went to Bagwantalawa town today (25) and called the police officers and threatened them regarding the related incident.
The youth in question was arrested by the police following a complaint made by the bank due to an argument between a manager and a customer in Bagwantalawa town.
The young man has been ordered to be remanded after being produced before the court.
However, the minister has stated that the police have taken the law into their hands and said that the police had assaulted the youth in question.
It is also reported that the Minister has asked Hatton Superintendent of Police Mr. H. M. N. Dehigama to immediately transfer the police officers who arrested the concerned youth.
There, the Superintendent of Police has mentioned that he has already started an investigation based on the footage posted on social media regarding the arrest of the suspect, and further action will be taken based on that investigation.
The Superintendent of Police has also told the minister that the three police officers who arrested the suspects cannot be transferred until the investigations are completed.
