The government of the United Kingdom (UK) is seeking the assistance of the Sri Lankan government in order to prevent illegal immigration to the UK.

Sarah Hulton the British High Commissioner to Sri Lanka met with the Public Security Minister Tiran Alles recently to request the Minister to cooperate in preventing illegal Sri Lankan immigrants from coming to Britain.

According to the Public Security Ministry, a lengthy discussion on the Prevention of Terrorism Act was also held.

The minister emphasised the importance of recently enacted new laws in Britain, stating that they are necessary to maintain law and order in the country.

Meanwhile, Mr Mellor sought clarification from the minister on four suspects detained under the Prevention of Terrorism Act.

The Minister informed the officials that all four of them were suspects in connection with the Easter Sunday bomb attacks and that they had been arrested and brought before the law in accordance with the PTA in effect at the time.

Minister Alles also stated that the proposed new anti-terrorism law should be balanced in order to maintain law and order.

In addition, the British High Commissioner informed the Minister that a training workshop on the application of rules and regulations will be organised for Sri Lankan Police officers via Zoom conferencing.
