Natasha Edirisuriya, who made some controversial statements against Buddhism at a recent event held in Colombo, has been arrested.

The police say that she was arrested a few moments ago at the Katunayake airport while trying to leave the country.

She has been arrested by the Criminal Investigation Department.

Last Saturday, during a comedy program held at a major school in Colombo, the girl in question had made several statements insulting Buddhism.

Those statements were circulated on social media in the last few days and when many people objected to it, she had also apologized for it.

However, the Criminal Investigation Department had received several complaints to investigate the young woman who made the relevant statements, and accordingly, the Criminal Investigation Department arrested the young woman last night.

The arrested Natasha Edirisuriya has been detained at the Police Computer Crime Investigation Division and further investigations are being conducted, the police said.
