This epidemic situation, known as PRRS, which spreads around pig farms, was identified in Sri Lanka in 2020.
At that time, the epidemic situation was under control due to the necessary vaccines being brought to Sri Lanka and administered to the pigs.
The Animal Transport and Animal Production Farmers Association says that the epidemic situation has worsened again due to the recent suspension of vaccinations by pig farm owners due to such control.
This situation has become acute around the Western Province and this situation has also spread around pig farms in Galewela, Wahakotte, Matale, Jaffna and Kilinochchi.
