A group of parliamentarians have handed over a letter to Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena asking him to take appropriate action against Member of Parliament Ali Sabri Rahim.
The MP was taken into the custody of customs at Katunayake Airport yesterday morning (24th) while attempting to illegally bring a stock of gold and mobile phones into Sri Lanka.
It was revealed that he had brought 3 1/2 kilos of gold and 91 smart phones to Sri Lanka.
He was later released after paying a fine of 7.5 million rupees.
The group of MPs who submitted the letter to the Speaker say that MP Ali Sabri has misused MP privileges.
