Ceylon Teachers Union says that two representatives of the National School Teacher Transfer Board were also arrested during the protest by the student monks of the Buddhist and Pali University.

A group of student monks from the Buddhist and Pali University forced their way into the Ministry of Education yesterday (23) afternoon.

While the protestors were protesting at the Ministry of Education premises, the police arrived there and arrested a group of protestors.

Meanwhile, a group of arrested monks and others have been taken to the Mirihana Police, while the two arrested teachers and the rest of the group are in the custody of the Talangama Police.

Ceylon Teachers Union Secretary Joseph Stalin and a group of others had come to Thalangama Police yesterday afternoon to see them.

Mr. Joseph Stalin, Secretary of Ceylon Teachers Union,

“Still we were not allowed to see. What is this law? We say release these people immediately. If not, we will have to talk with the education system and come to a decision.”

Mr. Nuwan Bopage, lawyer mentioned,

“These people are detained in many police stations. It is reported that the student monks were kept in a bus and severely beaten. Wasantha Mudalige’s life is dangerous. While all these people have the ability to be detained in one place, groups have been detained in different places. A fact that raises serious doubts.”
