The protest organized by Samagi Janabalawegaya in Colombo demanding the government to hold the local government elections was met with water and tear gas attacks by the police.
The protest was organized with a large number of people in the despite heavy showers under the theme “Let’s protect democracy and gather in Colombo”.
The group protested by displaying placards and chanting slogans such as “Let’s gather in Colombo to save voting rights, Let’s gather in Colombo to save democracy.”
