  • Make your first photo-video submission!
  • Keep the examined body parts safe!

Mr. Dinesh Shafter’s DNA was tested in connection with the items discovered at the scene of his death. According to the test reports, there is another guest bio sample in the government taster’s report, in addition to his bio sample, the Criminal Investigation Department stated yesterday (14) before Colombo Additional Magistrate Mrs. Rajindra Jayasuriya.

The Criminal Investigation Department informed the court that the other alien biological sample was found in the deceased’s water bottle, the cable wire around his neck, and the zip tie with which his hands were said to be tied.

The Magistrate issued orders to the Chief Forensic Officer and the Government Coroner to keep the samples of the body parts of the deceased in the possession of the forensic medical officers of the Colombo General Hospital until the court is notified and not to destroy them.

If any witnesses or suspects went to the scene of the crime, the Criminal Investigation Department informed the court that the Government Inspector had issued an order summoning them to the Government Inspector’s Office for DNA testing.

The DNA of two Borella Cemetery employees, two Maradana Police SOCO officers, and four others who were present at the scene on the day of Mr. Shafter’s murder will be tested on the 23rd, according to the relevant request. The court ordered them to appear at the government taster’s office for an inspection.

Because the post-mortem report does not include the number of the bedside ticket where the deceased was treated while in the hospital, an order is issued to the director of the National Hospital to provide the documents pertaining to the bedside ticket report and the two scans of the deceased, who was admitted to the Colombo National Hospital at approximately 3.30 pm on 12/15/2022. Mr. Anuja Premaratne, the President’s counsel, who appeared on behalf of the deceased, requested the court.

Furthermore, Mr. Anuja Premaratne requested the court to issue an order to immediately submit the photographs and video footage taken at the time of the autopsy to the court.

The reports of Dr. Nalin who acted on the dead body and the photographs of the Soco officers of Borella Police were copied on the CD. The lawyer, who requested that a disc be presented to the court immediately, also requested the court to issue an order to keep certain body parts in the custody of the government taster.

On 15/12/2022, the Magistrate issued orders to the director of the Colombo National Hospital to immediately submit to the court all the reports related to the preliminary investigations carried out on the deceased who was treated under sedation in the emergency department of the Colombo General Hospital. Also, orders were issued to the Chief Forensic Officer to submit the before and after photographs taken to the court during the post-mortem examination of the dead body.

Also, orders were issued to the OIC of Borella Police’s SOCO Investigation Unit to immediately hand over the photographs taken by the Borella Soco officers regarding the death and if any videos were recorded, to the court immediately.

As a result, the Magistrate directed the Criminal Investigation Department to carry out these orders as soon as possible because it has been revealed that the post-mortem examination related to the death of Mr. Dinesh Shafter, Director of Janashakti Group, is problematic and that there is a foreign biological sample in the deceased’s biological sample.
