Bringing the 13th Amendment is good, but it is not a solution to their problems, said MP C.V. Wigneswaran.
He said this while speaking to the media.
He also said that in a united country, the government always implements the views of the majority of the Sinhalese people.
Why can’t we do our things? I saw them all as Chief Minister. How did the central government bring us to a position where we cannot work? That is why we are asking about a federal system. But I say that it is better to fully implement the 13th amendment to the current situation. I was looking forward to all the other ones, they were good and he was going to do them. The President talked to me when he left. Inside the parliament, he was told that he saw that only half of his promises had been fulfilled. Let’s see how much he will fulfil it? That I accept them. His speech is good.”
Question – Will the government give 13 as the promise?
“It is true that they promised. It is also true that those promises are about to be fulfilled. But we don’t know what will happen in the middle. No matter what the government does, the opposition comes and does something. In 2001, Mr. Ranil Wickramasinghe opposed Madam Chandrika’s move and tore up the constitution and set it on fire inside the parliament. Everyone works against it and in the end we get nothing. But it has been said that it will be given now. We accept that.”
Question – is the hope take?
“Not to take it. This is something to give.”
Question – How to handle when there is opposition in the country?
“Who’s Objection”?
Question – Maha Sanga’
“Are they all the people who rule the country? No Each one can say different things. They came to Jaffna the day before yesterday and told me to do more at 13.
Question – looking back only after getting 13… ?
“We will take the federal system and look back…”
