Under the current economic situation, if salary increase is not possible, the government employees request to be given an interim allowance.

The Union of Public Service Unions has decided to present its demand to the government along with a petition signed by five lakh government employees.

Inflation has risen rapidly and the wages received are not enough to meet the cost of living, the union said.

Also, the association alleges that the government is not very interested in taking measures to lower the cost of living.

For example, the national organizer of the association, Mr. Pradeep Basnayake, has said that there has been an allegation that the government will not do so when there is the possibility of further lowering the fuel prices in the world trade market.
