Winning team wins all-inclusive trip to Liverpool FC in the UK

The Standard Chartered Cup 2024, a premier corporate 5-a-side Futsal tournament, organised by Standard Chartered Sri Lanka, concluded on Friday, July 19th at the Racecourse Grounds, Colombo.

John Keells Group emerged victorious, clinching the championship title with a 2-0 win over LOLC Finance PLC in an exhilarating final match. John Keells won the prestigious SC Cup 2024 and an all-inclusive trip to Liverpool, UK, offering a unique opportunity to witness a live Liverpool FC (LFC) Premier League game and a tour of the iconic Anfield Stadium, home of the Reds, along with a training session at the LFC Academy. The Runners-up, LOLC, as well as EAM Maliban Textiles (2nd Runners-up), walked away with signed LFC jerseys.

Bingumal Thewarathanthri, CEO, of Standard Chartered Sri Lanka, said, “We extend our congratulations to John Keells for their outstanding performance and to all participating teams for their enthusiasm and sportsmanship. Events such as the Standard Chartered Cup are integral to our commitment to building strong client relationships and contributing to the vibrancy of Sri Lanka’s corporate community.”

The tournament saw fierce competition among 22 teams representing a diverse cross-section of Sri Lanka’s business community. The championship showcased athletic talent reinforcing the Bank’s dedication to promoting sports and healthy competition within the corporate sector.

Commenting on the event’s success, Anuk De Silva, Head of Corporate Affairs, Brand & Marketing, Standard Chartered Sri Lanka, added, “The Bank’s partnership with Liverpool FC continues to create exciting opportunities for our clients and partners. It is rewarding that this event brings together Sri Lanka’s corporates in a celebration of sportsmanship and friendly competition.”

The tournament drew enthusiastic support from participating companies including Standard Chartered officials. Adding to the exciting atmosphere were entertainment acts, a spectacular fireworks display, and a special cocktail reception for VIP guests.

Standard Chartered became main club partner of Liverpool Football Club in 2010, and with the recent extension of the partnership, the Bank will appear on the front of the LFC shirt until the end of the 2026/27 season.
