The United National Party (UNP) faces internal turmoil following the revelation of a political agreement between President Ranil Wickremesinghe and National People’s Power (NPP) leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake. In response, Lionel Ipalawatta, a long-standing leader from Habaraduwa who has been with the UNP since 1977, has announced his departure from the party.
Ipalawatta, deeply disheartened by the disclosed deal, formally communicated his resignation through a letter addressed to the UNP General Secretary. In his letter, he confirmed his decision to relinquish all positions and responsibilities within the party.
