Priyantha Weerasuriya, Senior Deputy Inspector General of Police, has been appointed as the Acting Inspector General of Police in Sri Lanka. The appointment letter was presented to him today, September 27, by the President’s Secretary, Dr. Nandika Kumanayake, at the President’s Office.
Weerasuriya previously served as the Senior Deputy Inspector General of Police for the North Central Province and brings over 36 years of experience within the police department. He began his career as a constable before being promoted to the rank of Senior DIG.
At 55 years old, Mr. Weerasuriya is not only a seasoned police officer but also a qualified lawyer. He holds a post-graduate degree in Human Resource Management, which he earned from the University of Colombo between 2017 and 2020.
