President Ranil Wickremesinghe has dismissed four state ministers, all of whom had previously backed his appointment as president in parliament.
The ministers affected are Premalal Jayasekara (Ports and Aviation), Indika Anuruddha (Electric Power and Energy), Mohan Priyadarshana de Silva (Agriculture), and Siripala Gamlath (Highways). Their dismissal from office is effective immediately.
The decision was made in accordance with Article 47(3)(a) of the Constitution, which grants the president authority to dismiss state ministers from their positions.
