Former Member of Parliament Ranjan Ramanayake has announced that he is currently exploring the possibility of regaining his voting rights following the presidential pardon he has received.
In a statement to the media, Ramanayake mentioned that the Election Commission has requested him to provide the necessary documentation related to the presidential pardon for further discussion.
He noted that President Anura Kumara Dissanayake has arranged for the required documents from the President’s Office to be provided today.
Ramanayake is reviewing the clauses of the presidential amnesty to fully understand the civil rights it entails, as he faces limitations on various activities, including foreign travel and health insurance.
In January 2021, the Supreme Court of Sri Lanka sentenced Ranjan Ramanayake to four years of rigorous imprisonment for contempt of court.
