Dr. Harini Amarasuriya, the Prime Ministerial candidate of the National People’s Power (NPP) for the 2024 general election, has achieved a remarkable milestone by becoming the top candidate in the Colombo district, garnering over 655,289 preferential votes.
This unprecedented vote count sets a new record as the highest number of preferential votes ever received by a single parliamentary candidate in Sri Lankan election history.
The previous record-holder was Mahinda Rajapaksa, who secured 527,364 preferential votes in the Kurunegala District during the 2020 general election.
