A formal complaint has been lodged with the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) accusing former Minister Harin Fernando of involvement in an illegal land transaction scheme. The complaint was filed yesterday by Wasantha Yapabandara, a Member of Parliament from the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) and a legal professional.
The allegations claim that Fernando, in collaboration with officials from the Land Reform Commission (LRC), orchestrated the illicit exchange of forest conservation lands. The properties in question, located in Hanthana, Katana, Malabe, and Meemure, are said to have been transferred to a relative of a prominent iron industry businessman in Sri Lanka, in exchange for lesser-valued land in Meemure.
The complaint has drawn significant attention as the investigation begins into these claims of widespread land misappropriation.
