With the presidential election just days away, it has been reported that 215 out of the 225 members of Parliament have each received two “Repeater Shotguns” approved by the Ministry of Defense. These firearms, capable of firing multiple rounds without the need for reloading, were issued in response to concerns raised by the MPs regarding their safety.
The request for additional security measures comes after last year’s civil unrest, during which several MPs’ homes were set ablaze by protestors. The MPs have not received these firearms as a permanent allocation; rather, they must personally pay for them, and strict regulations prohibit the transfer of these firearms to third parties.
