According to the Sri Lanka Human Rights Commission, the Commission recommended to the President that an investigation be conducted into the attack on Gota Go village in Galumuwadora last May (9), including the Inspector General of Police who committed a dereliction of duty.
Based on this investigation, the Human Commission recommends that the people who were beaten and injured in the incident be identified and that the police be forced to compensate those people fairly.
In this incident, the commission also notes a breach of duty by police officers on the scene, including the Inspector General of Police and Senior Deputy Inspector General of Police Deshbandu Thennatho.
According to the Human Rights Commission announcement, the councillors and the group failed to properly disclose the group’s statements on the day of the incident, and the police failed to ensure the security of the activists engaged in the peaceful struggle in Galle face that day after the incident.
