A senior official of the Meteorology Department told ‘Mawrata’ that when the south-westerly winds are established across the island, i.e. by the third week of May, the current hot condition will subside.
At the same time, he mentioned that rain conditions will mainly occur in the districts of Sabaragamuwa, Western, Central Provinces and Galle and Matara in the southwestern part of the island.
He mentioned that even a low-pressure condition may occur during the Southwest Monsoon around the Bay of Bengal, and if that happens, it may rain in other areas as well.
It is also said that there may be a few thunderstorms in some areas in the evening in the next few days until the third week of May.
The official of the Department of Meteorology pointed out that they should be careful with lightning during those few days as well.
