A meeting between the Council of Arab Ambassadors representing Sri Lanka and Anura Kumara Dissanayake was held this morning (08) at the Presidential Secretariat.
During the discussion, the ambassadors briefed the President on the challenges faced by countries in the Middle East region due to the ongoing war situation, highlighting the threats to peace, security, and stability, particularly within those nations.
The President emphasized that Sri Lanka aspires to see peace established in the Middle East region as soon as possible. He also expressed concern over attacks targeting countries in the region that are not directly involved in the conflict, stating that he would never condone such actions.
President Anura Kumara Dissanayake further expressed appreciation for the continued support extended by Middle Eastern countries to Sri Lanka, particularly in meeting the nation’s energy needs, as well as their contributions to foreign employment opportunities and the tourism sector.
Noting that a significant number of Sri Lankan workers are employed across the Middle East, the President conveyed his gratitude for the measures taken to ensure their safety amid the prevailing war situation.
He also affirmed that Sri Lanka, both as an individual nation and collectively with others, will extend its fullest support in line with international law to promote peace, security, and stability in the Middle East region.
The meeting was attended by several dignitaries, including Khalid Nasser Sulaiman AlAmeri, Ambassador of the United Arab Emirates to Sri Lanka and Head of the Council of Arab Ambassadors; Khalid Hamoud Nasser Alkahtani, Ambassador of Saudi Arabia; Ahmed Ali Saeed Al Rashdi, Ambassador of Oman; Adel Ibrahim, Ambassador of Egypt; Ihab I.M. Khalil, Ambassador of Palestine; Hamad Mohammed Abdullah Al-Sanad Al-Dosari, Ambassador of the State of Qatar; Anmar A.A. Al-Emin; Abdullah A.M.A. Almuhana; and Faek B.T. Aboud.
Also present at the occasion were Dr. Anil Jayantha Fernando, Hanif Yusuf, and Roshan Gamage.
