The road development authority has asked the famous street food mobile shops in Kimbulawala to vacate by February 24th. This is a popular destination for both domestic and international tourists.
There are about 33 shops in that place, and more than 150 families earn their living through them.
The shop owners say that they started their businesses at Kimbulawala due to the loss of their jobs due to the Covid epidemic.
They further state that it is unfair for the Road Development Authority to act like this when the Urban Development Authority has planned to trade in that place under a legal system.
“We cannot imagine what we will do when we are suddenly removed.” We request that you charge us some fees and keep us here until the country gets better. We don’t bother anyone. We keep it nice and clean here. Not even a chair is placed so as not to disturb the people on the jogging path. This place has become a place where even foreigners come. Recently, Minister Bandula was caught in a traffic jam while passing by, so these shops are going to be removed…”
