Japan’s Prime Minister, Fumio Kishida, congratulated Ranil Wickremesinghe on his election as President of Sri Lanka.
In a letter of congratulations to the President, Japan’s Prime Minister stated that he hopes to see political stability restored in Sri Lanka.
He also stated that he expects negotiations with the International Monetary Fund and debt restructuring with fair burden sharing among all creditors to move forward quickly under President Wickremesinghe’s leadership.
Fumio Kishida added that he would like to collaborate with President Wickremesinghe to strengthen bilateral ties, including cooperation to realise a “Free and Open Indo-Pacific.”
