Judge Bandula Karunaratne and Judge Shashi Mahendran of the Court of Appeal informed that the investigation regarding the fraud that has occurred in the importation of BMW cars to Sri Lanka by Prestige Automobile Company may reopen. Sri Lanka Latest News
The Court of Appeal has granted this permission by accepting the objection presented by Mr Sumathi Dharmawardena, Deputy Solicitor General, President’s Advocate who appeared on behalf of Sri Lanka Customs.
Earlier, the customs conducted an investigation and fined Prestige Automobile Company Rs.100000/- per vehicle for financial irregularities in the importation of BMW cars to Sri Lanka.
Against this, Prestige Automobile Company had taken measures to obtain a restraining order from the court.
However, Mr. Sumathi Dharmavardhan, the President’s lawyer who appeared for the customs, requested to permit to start the investigation once again after receiving new evidence from the German customs about the fraud that took place in the importation of BMW cars by the Prestige Automobile Company to Sri Lanka.
Court of Appeal Judge Bandula Karunaratne and Judge Shashi Mahendran informed that an investigation can be started again after presenting the relevant facts.
