Four individuals, including a woman, have been arrested by the Central Crime Investigation Bureau (CCIB) on allegations of printing US$600,000 overseas and preparing to distribute the counterfeit currency.
The cash, which is estimated to be worth around Rs. 200 million in Sri Lankan currency at the current exchange rate, is believed to have been printed in Malaysia. A senior police officer stated that further investigations into the incident are currently underway.
The suspects were apprehended while allegedly exchanging the money at a leading hotel in Colombo.
