Essential service personnel prohibited from engaging in strikes.‘Pohottuwa’ passes a resolution in Parliament! I Sri Lanka Latest News

Colombo District MP Madhura Withanage submitted a motion to the Parliament saying that tasks related to the daily activities of the people should be declared as essential services for a long period of time and that related officials cannot participate in a strike in any way and have an impact on people’s lives. Latest News

The MP also said that this proposal is being presented because the daily life of the majority is affected due to the strikes carried out by a few people for the sake of professional rights.

Mr. Madhura Withanage also mentioned that this legislation should include an accepted method to solve the professional problems of officials. Presenting the proposal, Mr Madhura Vithanage said that due to the continuous strikes in the sectors that provide essential services, the daily lives of the people are greatly affected and the basic rights of the people are violated.

Badulla District MP Sudarshan Denipitiya confirmed the proposal.
