Do not disturb the court! Don’t underestimate the independence! LawAsia issues a statement condemning the Privileges Committee!

LawAsia, the main association of legal professionals in the Asia Pacific region, states that the fact that the Parliamentary Privileges Committee is investigating whether the parliamentary privilege has been breached by a Supreme Court action is a possible threat to the independence of the Sri Lankan judiciary, and expresses its concern about it.

LawAsia has cautioned all stakeholders not to take any action or step to undermine the independence of the Sri Lankan Judiciary and to ensure that the independence of the Sri Lankan Judiciary is not harmed thereby.

LawAsia is a regional association of lawyers, judges, paralegals and legal organizations representing the interests and concerns of the Asia Pacific legal profession.

For more than fifty years, LawAsia has served as a platform to encourage the exchange of legal knowledge, upholding the rule of law, professional integrity and adherence to the inter-existing principles of protecting human rights.
