The controversial tender for the procurement of plug bases intended for use in the production of electronic identity cards for government institutions has been officially cancelled, according to reliable sources.
A spokesperson from the Ministry of Digital Economy Affairs confirmed that the Department of Registration of Persons has taken the decision to cancel the tender.
The tender had initially called for the supply of plug bases, each priced at approximately Rs. 72,000, with a planned purchase of around 700 units. The high cost and nature of the procurement had recently sparked significant public and media debate.
Commenting on the matter at a recent Cabinet media briefing, the Cabinet Media Spokesperson stated that the procurement process is open and transparent, allowing any eligible party to submit their bids. He further emphasized that if parties fail to participate through the proper channels, raising accusations in other forums serves no practical purpose.
