The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has arrested the Land Registrar attached to the Colombo Land Registry Office for allegedly providing official land registry documents to outside parties and aiding and abetting organized criminal activities.
The suspect, who served as the Land Registrar at the Colombo Land Registry Office within the Kurunduwatta Police Division, was taken into custody following an investigation launched by the CID.
According to police, the suspect was summoned to the Financial and Commercial Crimes Investigation Division and the Financial Crimes Investigation Unit after a complaint was received by the CID. He was arrested after investigators recorded his statement.
Investigations have revealed that while serving as the Colombo Land Registrar, the suspect allegedly provided documents contained in the office’s official books, volumes, and deed registers to external parties. He is also accused of conspiring to unlawfully supply these documents, facilitating organized criminal activities, forging land-related documents belonging to the lawful owners, and enabling the illegal transfer and disposal of those properties.
Police stated that the suspect will be produced before court over alleged offences under Sections 113(b) and 158, read together with Sections 109 and 113 of the Penal Code, as well as under the Offences against Public Property Act.
The arrested suspect is a 51-year-old resident of Rukmale, Pannipitiya.
Further investigations are being carried out by the Financial and Commercial Crimes Investigation Division and the Financial Crimes Investigation Unit of the Criminal Investigation Department.
