Trade unions affiliated with the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) have announced their determination to continue their protest campaign until the proposed Sri Lanka Electricity Act is withdrawn.

Speaking at a joint press conference, union representatives declared that the first phase of the protest would commence today.

According to reports, representatives from 28 trade unions are expected to participate in a demonstration today in front of the CEB headquarters by reporting sick leave as a form of protest.

The unions allege that the current government is attempting to reintroduce the Sri Lanka Electricity Act No. 36 of 2024, with amendments aimed at implementing reforms in the electricity sector.

In support of the planned protest, the Ceylon Electricity Board Engineers’ Association has also announced its participation in today’s trade union action.
