Sri Lanka Society of Hypertension Launches Hypertension Summit 2026

“Know Your Numbers, Control Your Pressure, Protect Your Future.”

The Hypertension Society of Sri Lanka has announced the Hypertension Summit 2026 in collaboration with the Sri Lanka College of Internal Medicine at a media conference held to raise public awareness of the growing burden of hypertension and the importance of early detection, regular screening, and timely treatment. To improve hypertension care in Sri Lanka, the summit will bring together researchers, policymakers, healthcare professionals, and other stakeholders to discuss the latest developments in diagnosis, treatment, and prevention.

One of the biggest risk factors for heart disease, stroke, kidney disease, and premature death is still hypertension. Many people continue to live with the illness without symptoms and go undetected despite its serious health consequences.

The summit, under the theme “Know Your Numbers, Control Your Pressure, Protect Your Future,” will focus on strengthening prevention, enhancing diagnosis and treatment, and fostering collaboration within Sri Lanka’s healthcare sector.

The event will offer a forum for discussing the newest developments in hypertension management while encouraging greater engagement among healthcare professionals, institutions, policymakers, employers, and the public.

Dr Suranga Manilgama, President of the Hypertension Society of Sri Lanka, said, “Too many people are still unaware that they have hypertension, even though it is still one of the most preventable causes of heart disease, stroke, and kidney failure. The goal of the Hypertension Summit 2026 is to improve patient outcomes, strengthen prevention, and encourage more Sri Lankans to be aware of their numbers before complications arise.”

The society also identified several misconceptions that still prevent early detection, such as the idea that healthy individuals don’t require blood pressure checks, that hypertension primarily affects the elderly, or that high blood pressure isn’t a serious illness.

Designed to support national efforts to lessen the impact of hypertension and enhance cardiovascular health outcomes in Sri Lanka, the Hypertension Summit 2026 will include expert discussions, scientific presentations, and collaborative dialogue.

To help lower long-term risk, the Hypertension Society of Sri Lanka encourages the public to frequently check their blood pressure, seek medical attention when readings are elevated, and adopt healthier lifestyle choices.

The most important number you may not know is your blood pressure. Hypertension Summit 2026 aims to change that.
