Sri Lanka Insurance Corporation General Ltd. (SLICGL) and the Royal College Union (RCU) formalised a strategic partnership by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), marking a significant step towards community support. This notable partnership, signed on 9th April 2025, is designed to provide RCU members with exclusive insurance benefits, thereby strengthening SLICGL’s role as a socially responsible insurer that invests in community-driven initiatives, while RCU alumni receive an opportunity to give back to their alma mater. A key highlight of this collaboration is SLICGL’s commitment to contributing a percentage of net premiums from policy conversions to the RCU Loyalty Pledge, thus enhancing funding options for honorary scholarship schemes designed to help deserving young Royalists.

Some of the key benefits offered by SLICGL to RCU members include: commitment for contributions allocated directly to the RCU Loyalty Pledge from policy conversions; a discount on ‘Medi Plus’ and ‘Medi 60’ medical insurance policies; exclusive loyalty rewards with partner brands, offering discounts on apparel, vehicle services, eyewear and travel; ‘Inform & Move’ facility for vehicles insured over LKR 7.5 million under a Motor Comprehensive Policy; and exclusive loyalty rewards for SLICGL Motor Plus policyholders. Moreover, Old Royalists purchasing a Motor Comprehensive policy will receive complimentary Home Protect Lite or Solar Insurance cover.

Commenting on the partnership, Priyantha Perera, Chief Operating Officer of SLICGL noted, “We are proud to collaborate with RCU in an initiative that not only provides financial security but also strengthens alumni engagement. This initiative challenges the traditional perception of insurance as a purely profit-driven industry. By reinforcing its commitment to alumni engagement, SLICGL showcases a new model where financial security and community well-being go hand in hand. This partnership reflects our dedication to fostering meaningful, long-term impact beyond traditional insurance services.”

Adding further, Aruna Samarajewa, Secretary, RCU stated, “This collaboration is a testament to the strength of the Royal College community. Through the Loyalty Pledge scholarship programme, we are ensuring sustainable support for our young students, and SLICGL’s contribution enhances our ability to give back to our alma mater.”

RCU, one of Sri Lanka’s most distinguished alumni associations, has a long history of supporting Royal College and its network. Recognizing the strength of this community, SLICGL has tailored insurance solutions that offer more than just financial protection – the well-being and growth of the alumni network. Since the RCU Loyalty Pledge will receive direct financial contributions from every policy conversion, this partnership ensures continuous and sustainable support for alumni-driven initiatives. By bridging insurance benefits with social responsibility, SLICGL and RCU are setting a new benchmark for alumni engagement and corporate-community collaboration.
