People’s Bank held a ceremonial event on 1st January 2026 to usher in the New Year at its Head Office, People’s Tower, where staff members formally commenced duties by pledging the Government Service Oath.

The gathering was addressed by the Chairman of People’s Bank, Prof. Narada Fernando, and the Chief Executive Officer/General Manager, Mr Clive Fonseka. The programme included the ceremonial chanting of Seth Pirith as well as multi-religious observances, reflecting the Bank’s commitment to unity and inclusivity.

The event at the Head Office was attended by members of the Corporate and Executive Management, representatives of trade unions, religious organizations and other voluntary bodies, along with staff members. Simultaneously, similar ceremonies were conducted at People’s Bank branches island-wide, with employees pledging the Government Service Oath to mark the commencement of the New Year.

Established in 1961, People’s Bank is one of Sri Lanka’s leading commercial banks, serving the country’s largest customer base of over 15.2 million. With the nation’s most extensive network of 746 branches and service centers, and an undisputed leadership in digital banking, the Bank continues to play a pivotal role in driving Sri Lanka’s economic growth and development.
