People’s Bank, which introduced the tradition of doing business with the bank, is bringing new meaning to the Sinhala and Tamil Avurudu ‘Ganu Denu’ customs, by making arrangements to offer gifts to all those who take part in traditional Avurudu ‘Ganu Denu’.

Sharing his views about this, People’s Bank Deputy General Manager of Retail Banking T.M.W. Chandrakumara stated, “Having been established in 1961 to bring banking facilities closer to the general public of Sri Lanka, People’s Bank soon recognized their hopes, dreams, aspirations, and values from the very beginning. Thus, as a bank that is connected to the diverse ethnicities, religions, and cultures of the country, People’s Bank introduced the practice of conducting ‘Ganu Denu’ traditions with the bank on the Sinhala and Tamil New Year in 1973, making it the first time in the banking sector of this country.”

“Since then, People’s Bank has been successfully carrying out this wonderful tradition every year for a period of fifty two years. Today, this program has progressed to the point of offering attractive, meaningful gifts to the public who visit the bank for Avurudu ‘Ganu Denu’ transactions. The main objective of this program is to encourage our people to save by combining important local customs with banking and thereby also empowering them to play their part in making a significant contribution to national development,” he added.

“Therefore, this year, People’s Bank will be giving away a valuable wall clock for every transaction of Rs. 50,000 or more. In addition to this, a beautiful umbrella will be gifted for every transaction of Rs. 25,000 or more.”

“In addition, keeping in line with the Avurudu ‘Ganu Denu’ tradition, we have made special arrangements to present a special gift for every transaction and to treat all customers with delicious Avurudu treats such as Kavum, Kiri Buth and much more. As always, you are cordially invited to visit People’s Bank branches across the country for Avurudu ‘Ganu Denu’ and celebrate this wonderful time of year with us.”
