The Commercial Bank of Ceylon has been voted the ‘People’s Private Bank of the Year’ at the SLIM Kantar People’s Awards 2024, reaffirming the Bank’s status as the most popular private sector bank in the country for the second consecutive year.

This prestigious title was presented to the Bank by the Sri Lanka Institute of Marketing (SLIM) on the basis of the results of an annual survey to determine the country’s preferred brands in multiple categories.

Commercial Bank pays special emphasis on developing its brand, given the fact that a strong brand is of paramount importance in the Banking and Finance sector. Growing the equity of the brand through strategically produced thematic communications, event sponsorships both at regional and national level and through ground breaking digital marketing campaigns is given utmost priority, the Bank said.  The Bank ensures that it stays inclusive in all communications through multilingual advertising and also touches customers of all walks of life. The Bank leads the industry in terms of its corporate website and Instagram following, and holds leading positions in YouTube, Facebook and X.

The theme of the SLIM-Kantar People’s Awards 2024 was ‘Know the Research, Know the Award.’ A scientific research methodology is used to identify the most popular brands, personalities, organisations, advertisements, and artists that resonate deeply with the people of Sri Lanka, and the primary feature of the awards programme is its people-led jury system, to recognise institutions that have captured the hearts of the consumers.

Commercial Bank has been lauded as the “Most Respected Bank” in LMD’s “Most Respected Entities” for 19 consecutive years. The Bank has been ranked the strongest bank brand in Sri Lanka for the fourth consecutive year and the second strongest brand in the country overall with a brand value of 43.553 billion by Brand Finance, the world’s leading independent brand valuation consultancy.

For the purpose of these awards, the Sri Lanka Institute of Marketing (SLIM) partners with Kantar, the world’s leading marketing data and analytics company. Kantar conducts country-wide research and the award recipients are exclusively determined by people’s votes, with respondents to the survey invited to name their preferred brands and personalities across various categories, thereby honouring Sri Lanka’s most exceptional brands.

Sri Lanka’s first 100% carbon-neutral bank and the first Sri Lankan bank to be listed among the Top 1000 Banks of the World, Commercial Bank is a leader in digital innovation in the country’s Banking sector, and has the widest international footprint among Sri Lankan Banks, with 20 outlets in Bangladesh, a Microfinance company in Nay Pyi Taw, Myanmar, and a fully-fledged Tier I Bank with a majority stake in the Maldives.
